The National Weather Service in Johnston has issued a frost advisory for the Perry area for Friday from 1-9 a.m.
Temperatures as forecast to dip as low as 32 degrees, resulting in frost formation across central and southwestern Iowa.
Frost can kill sensitive outdoor vegetation if left uncovered, and gardeners should take steps in advance to protect tender plants from the cold.
Along with Dallas County, the frost advisory is in effect for Tama, Polk, Jasper, Poweshiek, Madison, Warren, Marion, Mahaska, Adams, Union, Taylor and Ringgold counties.
Along with Perry, cities under the frost advisory include Tama, Toledo, Traer, Dysart, Gladbrook, Waukee, Adel, Des Moines, Newton, Grinnell, Winterset, Earlham, Indianola, Norwalk, Carlisle, Pella, Knoxville, Oskaloosa, Corning, Creston, Bedford, Lenox, New Market and Mount Ayr.
