Bitters from your betters: Craft brewing has introduced stricter standards of taste into the mass consumption of America’s most egalitarian spirit, beer.

Team Good Beer’s second annual Good Beer Festival set up shop in the Spring Valley Ballroom of the Hotel Pattee Saturday and served potable beverages to local beer fans.

Francesca Romeo, Team Good Beer spokesperson, said 18 craft beer brewers were on hand for this year’s fest, including Exile Brewing Co., Firetrucker Brewery and Sierra Nevada.

A bicycling theme was also seen among the brewers, as in Single Speed Brewing and No Coast brand.

Other brands included 515 Brewing Co., Back Pocket Brewing, Confluence Brewing Co., Deschutes Brewery, Iowa Brewing Co., Kalona Brewing Co., Left Hand Brewing Co., Millstream Brewing Co., Odell Brewing Co., Parkside Brewing Co., Peace Tree Brewing Co., Reclaimed Rails Brewing Co. and Twisted Vine Brewery.

Last year’s beer marketplace was staged in a Madrid tavern, Romeo said, but the venue moved to Perry this year for the sake of the hotel’s convenient lodging.

Ankeny-based Kokopelli Bike Shuttle was also on hand to transport beery bikers who pedaled to Perry but took on more ballast than needed for the ride home.
