The Perry Fine Arts Series will be presenting Grand Ave Ruckus Sunday, Feb. 16 at 2 p.m. in Perry High School’s Performing Arts Center at 1200 18th St. in Perry.
Critics say that “Grand Ave Ruckus is the Midwest’s newest brass band, and they’re here to bring the boogie from the bayou here to the Heartland. Taking inspiration from New Orleans’ best brass bands to the Jackson 5, Grand Ave Ruckus is a bombastic get-down-and–dance funk-filled show. Featuring local Des Moines musicians, Grand Ave Ruckus covers your favorite tunes with a powerful, horn-driven performance. Screaming trumpets, wailing saxophones and a big bottom end give Grand Ave Ruckus their one-of-a-kind sound. Grand Ave Ruckus is always a party, and it’s definitely one you won’t want to miss.”
The band is managed by Brad Sparks, former PHS band director. Grand Ave Ruckus is made up of the following members but may occasionally include substitutes: Ben McCartney on trumpet, Hans Decker on trumpet, Ryan on trumpet, Ben Poppen on snare drum/percussion, Christian Hayden on bass drum/percussion, Dan Purscell on trombone, Josh Waymire on Sousaphone, Mike Kosiek on saxophones and John Sens on trombone.
Perry Fine Arts concerts are free, donations accepted, and open to all. The Performing Arts Center is handicapped accessible and air conditioned.
