The Greene County Law Enforcement Center (LEC) at 204 S. Chestnut St. in Jefferson temporarily closed its doors to public access beginning at 6 a.m. Wednesday, according to a statement released by Greene County Sheriff Jack Williams.

“This is an effort to be proactive against the spreading of the COVID-19 virus and by recommendation of the Iowa Department of Public Health,” Williams said.

The LEC operations will be unaffected by the change, Williams said. The offices will still be staffed, and the sheriff’s office will still provide round-the-clock coverage.

The front desk will not be open to the public but will remain available by phone at 515-386-2136 or email.

During the temporary closure, the public will not be able to renew or obtain a permit to carry a concealed weapon or a permit to purchase firearms. Renewal dates will be extended for firearms owners whose permits are set to expire during this process.

No fingerprinting will be available for the public during the closure.

For more information, call 515-386-2136.
