Spring fun seekers will have a lot to choose from Saturday, June 1, especially if the weather is fair, as Perry and several other Dallas County communities have planned events.

After dumping junk at the Perry Community Drop-Off Day between 8 a.m. and noon at the Pattee Park parking lot, Perry residents and others can please the kids at the Perry Public Library’s annual Kids Fest from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m.

A Universe of Stories is this year’s theme at the Kids Fest. Activities will include face painting, balloon twisting, bubble creations, a petting zoo, Touch-a-Truck with fire trucks, snow plows, dump trucks, tractors police cars and a $1 lunch special, featuring a pork loin sandwich or hot dog, bag of chips, cookie and a bottle of water.

Dallas Center’s Art and More — formerly known as Art in the Park — runs from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. in Mound Park, 1700 Walnut St. in Dallas Center. Local artists and craftspersons and a variety of food vendors are among the highlights.

Musician Ace Jones will play from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Girl with a Sword Maggie Howe will host the Fast and Fun Colorful Dyed Silk Scarves Class. Wine tasting will be hosted by half-a-dozen Iowa vineyards.

A pop-up art gallery for local artists is always a popular favorite, and the youngsters will be diverted with the Zoo Crew, balloon artist Rick Osterloh, a bounce house and obstacle course, spin art, DC Rocks, face painting and sidewalk chalk art.

The Minburn Public Library is coordinating the annual citywide garage sale from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The annual Celebrate Waukee festival, including a beverage garden from 4-10 p.m., will take place in both the Downtown Triangle and in Centennial Park. The free event begins at the Downtown Triangle at 8 a.m. with the Rotary Club of Waukee’s Pancake Breakfast and Waukee Farmers Market.

The daylong event will feature the Waukee Area Historical Society’s unearthing of a 50-year-old time capsule at 10:30 a.m. and many other activities, wrapping up the Jimmy the Weasel band at 4 p.m. followed by the Dick Danger Band of Des Moines at 6 p.m. The celebration ends with a bang at around 9:30 p.m. with the Celebrate Waukee fireworks.

Woodward Friends and Neighbors will begin Friday night and continue all day Saturday, including live music and a beer garden from noon until 11:30 p.m.
