Woodward-Granger's J.P. Nixon throws up an off-balance shot after being fouled by an Ogden player Tuesday. The shot went in, as did his ensuing free throw.

WOODWARD — Tuesday’s West Central Conference boys cage contest between visiting Ogden and Woodward-Granger followed, as is tradition, the girls game between the same schools.

The first contest was a low-scoring affair as both offenses struggled, with Ogden eventually emerging with a 41-32 win. W-G alone topped the combined output of both girls in the nightcap, as the two squads combined for 163 points, with the Hawks claiming an 86-77 win over their guests. Ogden won the first meeting between the two squads, 59-49, Dec. 13.

The Hawks (6-9, 3-10) held an 18-14 lead after one quarter and entered the locker room with a 34-28 advantage in a game that could clearly go either way.

However, the third quarter helped end any real threat to the hosts, as a 29-19 scoring edge put the Hawks in front, 63-47, with eight minutes to play.

W-G entered the game averaging 53.5 points per game, with Ogden scoring at an average clip of 58.5 points. Both blistered those numbers by staying hot in the fourth quarter, as 53 total points went on the scoreboard in just eight minutes.

Ogden (6-10, 6-8) accounted for 30 of those points, but they were not enough to erase their deficit, as W-G held on for the nine-point victory.

Spencer Hanson lays in two of his 14 second-half points. He finished with a career-high 18 points.

Three-pointers came from seemingly everywhere, with Ogden sinking eight treys and W-G six. Both teams landed two triples in the first half before dialing in the accuracy in the 101-point second half.

While the long-range shooting was a near wash, it was the running of the floor from W-G post Spencer Hanson that proved most deadly to the Bulldogs. Hanson repeatedly found himself on the front end of breakouts or secondary breaks, and freshman point guard Bryce Achenbach rarely missed getting him the ball, with Hanson scoring 14 of his 18 points in the second half while Achenbach tallied 12 assists to go with his 11 points, five rebounds and three steals.

Ogden’s Kayden Kruse is too late to stop W-G’s Marcus McConahay from splashing this 3-pointer Tuesday.

Marcus McConahay scored 18 points, cleared eight boards and had two assists, with Brady Aunspach adding 12 points and Reese Jamison 10, all in the first half. Bodie Harrison scored nine points on 9-of-10 shooting at the foul line while J.P. Nixon added five points and Cameron Hoyt three.

Hanson had four rebounds, Harrison four assists and Jamison three rebounds and two assists.

Ogden received a game-high 24 points from Ben Heeren, with Noah Sneddon tallying 18 points and Nathan Kennedy 15 and Kayden Kruse 12. Four points apiece from Sawyer Wagner and Andrew Haberer completed the Bulldog scoring.

Kruse sank four 3-pointers in the second half, with Sneddon hitting three treys and Kennedy one for the visitors while McConahay had three 3-pointers, Aunspach two and Hoyt one for the hosts.

W-G visits Madrid Friday before hosting Panorama Tuesday and traveling to Earlham Feb. 3.
