The National Weather Service in Des Moines has advised travelers that showers with heavy downpours are forecast over the next few hours, from 12 a.m. Monday and continuing overnight.[wpedon id=”82220″ align=”center”]

An area of moderate to heavy rain showers continues to develop along a corridor from near Lamoni north to near Des Moines. The heaviest rainfall is currently over far southern Iowa  but is expanding north along U.S. Interstate 35.

Travelers along area highways and interstates, particularly U.S. Interstate 35 and the U.S. Interstate 80 corridor nearer Des Moines, might encounter periods of heavy rainfall after midnight.

Lowered visibility and possible ponding of water on road surfaces is possible, the NWS said.

Travelers encountering  heavy rainfall while traveling should slow down and use extra caution. Water on roadways may lead to hydroplaning and loss of control of your vehicle.

The area of rain and heavier showers is expected to last overnight and move east northeast by Monday morning.

Affected area include Perry and the Perry-area cities of Adel, Booneville, Bouton, Dallas Center, Dawson, De Soto, Dexter, Granger, Linden, Minburn, Redfield, Van Meter, Waukee and Woodward.
