Hog hauler flips on Angus Curve Monday morning

A semi-tractor trailer hauling livestock overturned on the Angus Curve Monday about 9 a.m.

Firefighters with the Perry Volunteer Fire Department were asked to spray the hogs in the overturned semi with water every 15 minutes.

A semi-tractor trailer hauling hogs rolled over on the Angus Curve north of Perry on Iowa Highway 144 about 9 a.m. Monday.

The driver reportedly sustained a laceration to the head in the incident when the southbound semi left the roadway and rolled into the south ditch near 325th Street in Boone County.

It is unknown whether any hogs were injured or killed in the accident. The animals trapped within the overturned vehicle could be heard screaming.

The Perry Police Department, Perry First Responders and Perry Volunteer Fire Department responded. Firefighters were requested by the animals’ owner to hose down the livestock every 15 minutes until they are transferred to another truck.

The Iowa Department of Transportation Vehicle Enforcement Division also responded and started an investigation.
