This Tuesday is known nationwide as #GivingTuesday.

An annual charity event, #GivingTuesday is held on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving and offers shoppers a chance to give back after the for-profit splurges of Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

HomeCare Services Inc. of Dallas County is among the local non-profit agencies raising money. HomeCare Services provides in-home services as well as nutirion and transportation services to area senior citizens.

Aides with HomeCare Services provide personal, direct care services that support elderly and disabled individuals to live safely and independently in their own homes for as long as possible. The #GivingTuesday funds raised will be used to supplement the cost of this service, making it more affordable for those who need it but can’t afford to pay the full fee.

HomeCare Services Inc. of Dallas County is partnering with GIVE65, a program of the Home Instead Senior Care Foundation, in vying for $50,000 in matching grants available on #GivingTuesday. HomeCare Services stands to double its fundraising efforts up to $5,000 but only while those matching dollars are still available.

Matching dollars are awarded on a first come, first matched basis, meaning the earlier donations are received, the more likely the donations are to be matched.

“Please give as early as possible so we have the greatest chance to receive up to $5,000 in matching funds,” said Deb Anderson, director of the Home Care Aid Department at HomeCare Services. “Our partnership with GIVE65 gives us the chance to have an even greater impact on the seniors in our community.”

Giving starts at 12 a.m. Central Standard Time on Tuesday, Nov. 27, on the GIVE65 giving page, and it concludes at 12 a.m. Central Standard Time on Wednesday, Nov. 28.
