Homicide victim identified in rural Madison County death

Jonathan Michael Hoffman, 39, of Des Moines was found dead of gunshot wounds Tuesday afternoon in rural Madison County.

The Madison County Sheriff’s office and Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation are conducting a death investigation in rural Madison County.

WINTERSET, Iowa — The Madison County Sheriff’s office has identified the victim of a suspected homicide in rural southwest Madison County.

The Madison County Sheriff’s office received a 911 call Tuesday about 3:30 p.m. reporting an unresponsive male found lying in the roadway at the intersection of Macksburg Road and Grandview Lane in rural Madison County.

Deputies responded and found an adult male later identified as Jonathan Michael Hoffman, 39, Des Moines. Hoffman died from gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation is assisting the Madison County Sheriff’s office in the investigation.

Anyone with information about this incident or was on Macksburg Road between 2-3:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 21 and saw something is asked to contact the Madison County Sheriff’s office at 515-462-3575, ext. 8.
