A Tennessee man was arrested for drunk driving Tuesday morning after a West Des Moines Police Department Officer found him sleeping in a running car on an off ramp of U.S. Interstate 80.

James Malou Nyang, 33, of Lavergne, Tenn., was arrested on a charge of first-offense OWI.

According to court records, the police officer found Nyang about 5 a.m. “sleeping in the driver side of his vehicle, with the car running, along the side of the U.S. Interstate 80 off ramp, westbound, to Jordan Creek Parkway.”

Nyang allegedly presented the officer with red, bloodshot, watery eyes, slurred speech, unsteady balance and emitting an odor of alcohol.

Nyang allegedly told the officer, “I am drunk,” and he “stated this multiple times.” He failed some sobriety tests, refused others and gave a preliminary breath test of .187, according to court records.

Nyang was held at the Dallas County Jail prior to posting a $1,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear Dec. 17 in Dallas County District Court.
