Law enforcement radio traffic indicated icy roads caused multiple crashes and jackknifed semi-tractor trailers between 2:30 a.m. and 5 a.m. Thursday on U.S. Interstate 80 between the 110 and 118 mile markers in Dallas County.

Motorists are advised to use caution if traveling on the interstate between De Soto and West Des Moines. The Iowa DOT is responding with salt and sand for the icy roadway, according to radio traffic.

Light snow showers were forecast late Wednesday by the National Weather Service, with visibility locally reduced at times due to snow showers and winds gusts between 15 and 20 mph. This might add slight difficulty to travel, the NWS said.
