Jayette volleyball hosts tournament

Perry played three times Thursday in their own tournament, finishing with a 1-2 mark overall.

The hosts opened with a 21-15, 14-21, 15-13 victory over Des Moines East, but then dropped a 21-12, 19-21, 15-7 match to Earlham. A 21-15, 21-18 setback to Nodaway Valley capped the Jayette action.

Gaby Orellana had 17 assists and Taylor Atwell 14 in the tourney, with five others having one assist apiece.

Kathryn West led the team with 10 kills, with Maci Tunink and Ashley Cerna each having eight. Callie Steva tallied four kills, Yamilet Ortega and Charity Parnell three apiece, Atwell two and Addison Huntington one.

Huntington provided 18 digs, Cerna 17 and Madison Stika 13. Orellan notched eight digs and Atwell four, with Tunink and West having three apiece and Ortega, Steva and Parnell two each.

Steva finished with five blocks at the net and Parnell four, with Tunink having 3.5 rejections and West 2.5.

Perry was a combined 107-of-119 (90 percent) serving with seven aces.

Atwell was 28-31-2, Cerna 21-22-2, and Huntington 11-14-1, with Steva 7-10-1, Parnell 31-of-32 and Orellana 9-of-10.

The Jayettes host Saydel tonight and will compete in the AC/GC Tournament in Guthrie Center Saturday.
