
A Jefferson man died of injuries sustained in a one-vehicle accident on Eureka bridge west of Jefferson late Saturday night.
According to a report by the Iowa State Patrol, Ronald Kolbeck, 60, of Jefferson was eastbound on County Road E53 (237th Street) west of Kirkwood Avenue when he sideswiped the bridge over the North Raccoon River.
Kolbeck’s 2012 Ford F250 pickup truck continued in contact with the bridge for several feet before coming to rest on the south side of the bridge against the railing.
Kolbeck was not wearing a seatbelt, and his airbag did not deploy.
Kolbeck was transported to Greene County Medical Center by Greene County Ambulance and later transferred to another facility by ground ambulance. He died as a result of his injuries.
The report noted the roadway was dark and wet.
Damage to his pickup truck was estimated at $10,000. Damage to the bridge railing was estimated at $2,000.
