Jefferson man faces rape, drug and weapons charges

Richard Dean Tuhn Jr., 43,  of 302 E. Vest St., Jefferson, was charged with third-degree sexual abuse, dominion/control of a firearm by a domestic abuse offender, dominion/control of a firearm by a felon, first-offense possession of  controlled substance-methamphetamine, first-offense possession of  controlled substance-marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and fourth-degree theft.

A Jefferson man was arrested Wednesday at the end of a six-week investigation by the Jefferson Police Department that included the execution of search warrants in Jefferson and Grand Junction.

Richard Dean Tuhn Jr., 43,  of 302 E. Vest St., Jefferson, was charged with third-degree sexual abuse, dominion/control of a firearm by a domestic abuse offender, dominion/control of a firearm by a felon, first-offense possession of  controlled substance-marijuana, first-offense possession of  controlled substance-methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia and fourth-degree theft.

The alleged sexual abuse occurred Feb. 1, when Tuhn told the victim “that she owed him sex because of the trouble that she started” with law enforcement, according to court records.

The victim “said no and was screaming” as Tuhn allegedly sexual abused her, according to court records.

Tuhn also allegedly stole a firearm and afterward sent text messages, claiming that “he had a handgun” and “was going to shoot police officers and force officers to shoot him,” according to court records. He was also in possession of two rifles.

Tuhn is held in the Greene County Jail on a $10,000 cash-only bond. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Feb. 16 in Greene County District Court.

Tuhn was convicted of domestic abuse assault twice in 2010 and once in 2014 in Greene County District Court. He was convicted of second-degree burglary in 2014 in Greene County District Court.

The Jefferson Police Department was assisted in the investigation by the Greene County Sheriff’s office and the Iowa State Patrol.
