February 10, 2017

  • While conducting business checks, an officer located an open door at 300 N. Elm St.
  • Michael Godwin said he caught a male subject in his residence at 303 S. Grimmell Road. Godwin claimed he hit the intruder with a ball bat, and the person fled. The officer could find no evidence to support the claim.
  • While on patrol, an officer spotted a male that was wanted out of Carroll County. The officer confirmed the warrant and arrested Michael Eugene Hamilton, 39, of Jefferson. Hamilton was transported to the Carroll County Jail on a charge of failure to pay child support.
  • Officers assisted the Greene County EMS with a medical call in the 300 Block of Greenewood Road.
  • An officer spoke with Danniel Kooi at the Law Enforcement Center concerning a civil child custody issue occurring in Jefferson.
  • Fareway requested officers at 1207 N. Elm St. for a shoplifting event. Officers arrived and made contact with a female, whom store employees witnessed place two packages of meat under her coat. The female denied the accusation and allowed the officer to search her person. Nothing was located. The two packages of meat were in her shopping cart. She was allowed to check out but was advised by the business she was no longer welcome to shop there.
  • A traffic stop was performed in the 1000 block of E. Lincoln Way, resulting in Jason Christiansen Truitt of Jefferson being issued a citation for operation without registration.
  • A caller said he witnessed a vehicle back into a parked vehicle near Wilson Street and Lincoln Way. He said the male driver walked away after striking the vehicle. The officer located the vehicles and one owner. No damage had occurred to either vehicle.
  • A parking violation notice was issued in the 100 block of S. Wilson Avenue to a vehicle parked within 10 feet of a stop sign.
  • Bobby Hunt spoke with an officer at the Law Enforcement Center concerning a civil child custody issue.

February 11, 2017

  • Officers assisted with a medical call in the 700 block of N. Cedar Street.
  • An officer issued a parking violation notice in the 100 block of N. West Street for truck/RV/trailer parking.
  • Officers assisted the Greene County EMS with a medical call in the 700 block of S. Locust Street.
  • A traffic stop was performed at Wilson and Adams streets, resulting in Michael Kevin Rooney Jr. of Jefferson being issued a citation for failure to wear safety belt.
  • Dean Wilkins said someone entered his unlocked vehicle overnight and rustled through everything in the 1200 block of Rushridge Road. Some change was removed from the vehicle.
  • Officers assisted the resident at 604 S. Oak St. in attempting to catch a stray cat inside the residence. The officers provided the residence a live trap after searching for the cat for a period of time in the residence.
  • Jeremy McHargue said the ATM in the 100 block of W. State Street had not given him his cash during a transaction. The officer could not assist and advised McHargue to speak with someone at the bank Monday when it opened.
  • Phil Sloan reported burglary to his residence at 503 S. Cedar St. Sloan said he returned home last week and discovered several items of jewelry missing from his wife’s jewelry box. The officer is investigating.
  • A traffic stop was performed in the 900 block of E. Lincoln Way, resulting in Ashley Marie Voege being issued a citation for excessive speed and failure to provide proof of financial liability.
  • A traffic stop was performed in the 200 block of W. Head Street, resulting in Richard Jessie Duran of Denison being issued a citation for failure to provide proof of financial liability and driving while suspended.
  • Officers assisted with a medical call in the 300 block of Gallop Road.
  • A caller reported an intoxicated male in the 100 block of N. Chestnut Street. Officers made contact with the subject in front of Ace Hardware. The officers’ investigation led to Daryn Joseph Mallory, 51, of Jefferson being arrested for public intoxication.

February 12, 2017

  • A traffic stop was performed in the 700 block of N. Elm Street, resulting in Margaret Ann Wessel of Vail being issued a citation for excessive speed.
  • Officers assisted with a reportedly suicidal male in the 600 block of S. Chestnut Street. The male was taken to Greene County Hospital emergency room to be evaluated by medical staff.
  • A caller reported a noisy generator running daily in the 200 block of E. Washington Street. The officer is investigating the complaint.
  • A traffic stop was performed in the 100 block of S. Maple Street, resulting in Brandon Lee Ferguson of Jefferson being issued a citation for operation without valid driver’s license.
  • A traffic stop was performed in the 1300 block of N. Elm Street, resulting in Donald Coleman Bland II of Des Moines being issued a citation for driving while suspended.
  • A traffic stop was performed in the 100 block of N. Cedar Street, resulting in Brenda Lynn Ruddy of Emmetsburg being issued a citation for operation without registration.
  • Ashley Tuhn reported criminal mischief to her vehicle, which had occurred at 801 W. Mahlon St. Tuhn said her estranged husband broke her window during a verbal argument, but she was not supportive of criminal charges. The officer spoke to the male, who advised he would replace the window for Tuhn.
  • An officer towed a vehicle from the city yard waste dump site in the 700 block of W. Russell Street. Officers had located the vehicle 24 hours prior and spoken with the vehicle’s owner. The owner said it would be removed during the day hours, but the owner failed to remove it.

February 13, 2017

  • Courtney Kern requested officers at 702 W. Mahlon St. for an argument in progress with a boyfriend. The officer arrived and assisted in mitigating the issue to a resolution between the couple.
  • Officers assisted the Greene County EMS with a medical call in the 700 block of S. Locust Street.
  • John Reed called and reported numerous bags of trash dumped near the river bridge on S. Grimmell Road. The Jefferson Public Works Department removed the items from the area.
  • Caitlyn Bride reported a loose dog near the 300 block of N. Pinet Street. The dog was not located.
  • Grace Siglin requested an officer at 219 N. Chestnut St. Siglin told the officer her estranged husband sent a text advising her he was on his way to her place of employment. No direct threats were made, so the officer could not take criminal action. The officer contacted the Guthrie County Sheriff’s office and requested a mental health welfare check on the estranged husband, who resides in Guthrie County.
  • Jennifer Braga said her juvenile daughter was receiving unwanted contact from an adult male in Florida. The officer is attempting to speak with the male and advise him to end the contact.
  • John Johnson reported a bag of trash in the roadway on Iowa Highway 4 just north of 220th Street. The items had been removed before the officer’s arrival.
  • The Guthrie County Sheriff’s office requested assistance from a Jefferson officer in locating a vehicle involved in an accident in Guthrie County. The driver of the vehicle lives in Jefferson and was reported to be suicidal. The officer did not locate the driver in Jefferson. He was later located in Bagley by Guthrie County Deputy Sheriffs.
  • * An arrest warrant has been requested for Michael Jason Godwin, 27, of Jefferson for false report to a public entity–simple. Godwin told officers Feb. 10 at about 2:35 a.m. that someone had been in his residence and assaulted him. The officer could find no evidence of the assault occurring. The officer stayed in the area. At about 3:12 a.m., Godwin called the Law Enforcement Center and again reported the subject was attempting to get into his residence. Godwin advised the dispatcher that he could see the male outside in a pickup. The officer was parked across the street and no person or any vehicle had been in the area.
  • * An officer has completed a theft investigation that began Jan. 28. Someone reported losing his wallet at Kum & Go at 303 N. Elm St. Video provided from the business showed a female pick up the wallet after the male dropped it. The female did not turn the wallet in to store clerks but left the business with it. The female later provided the wallet to the officer after being questioned by the officer. A large sum of money was missing from the wallet when it was returned. An arrest warrant has been requested for Angela Rae Lowmiller, 45, of Jefferson for third-degree theft-aggravated misdemeanor.
  • * An arrest warrant has been requested for Erica Kay Murphy, 2,5 of Jefferson for accessory to a felony-aggravated. The charge alleges Murphy lied to law enforcement officers on several occasions in attempting to harbor her sister, who had active arrest warrants.
  • * An officer began a harassment investigation Jan. 31 at 104 N. Elm St. A man reported receiving 20 threatening and harassing text messages from another man. The victim repeatedly requested the texter to stop texting him, but the texts continued. An arrest warrant has been requested for Patrick Michael Kennedy, 32, of Jefferson for third-degree harassment–serious.
  • * An arrest warrant has been requested for Edward Eugene Goff, 38, of Ames for third-degree harassment–serious. Someone reported receiving numerous harassing text messages from Goff after law enforcement had warned him to end all contact.

February 14, 2017

  • A traffic stop was performed in the 1000 block of S. Elm Street, resulting in Ryan Patterson of Jefferson being issued a citation for operation without registration.
  • A traffic stop was performed in the 100 block of N. Locust Street, resulting in Alisha Ebersole of Jefferson being issued a citation for operation without registration.
  • Officers assisted the Greene County Sheriff’s office with a one-vehicle personal injury accident in the 1600 block of 235th Street.
  • Larry Saddoris reported two males and a female showing tenants photos of a female and inquiring about her whereabouts at the Camden Apartments at 102 S. Grimmell Road.
  • Mary Smith reported falling victim to the “Say Yes” phone scam. Scammers reportedly call and record you saying, “Yes,” and later use the recording to obtain credit cards in your name. Smith was advised to pay attention to her accounts and credit to make sure nothing unusual shows up. She has not incurred a loss at this point.
  • HyVee reported an abandoned bicycle at 106 W. Washington St. They said the bike had been at the store for a few weeks now. The officer placed the bike in impound.
  • An officer checked on an unoccupied stalled vehicle in the 100 block of Ram Drive. The owner removed the vehicle a short time later.
  • An officer investigated a backing accident in the 100 block of S. Chestnut Street. A 2008 Ford Van, owned by Clarence Carhill Inc. and operated by James Berry of Dana, backed from a parking spot on the east side of the street. The van struck a northbound vehicle, a 2009 Chevrolet Malibu owned by Chad Black and being operated by Gweneth, both of Jefferson. Both vehicles had a reported $500 in damages. Berry was issued a citation for unsafe backing on highway.
  • Ann Sayre reported a dog running freely in the 100 block of E.Washington Street.
  • Gary Goodwin reported a careless driver on N. Cedar Street. The vehicle was not located by the officer.
  • Jennifer Schiltz requested officers to repeatedly check on campers overnight at the Greene County Fairgrounds. The officer checked on the campers as time allowed.

February 15, 2017

  • The Wild Rose Casino requested an officer at 777 Wild Rose Lane. A man had attempted to enter the facility with fake identification. The subject was not allowed access and left before the officer’s arrival.
  • An officer assisted with a medical call in the 300 block of S. Cedar Street.
  • A female called the Law Enforcement Center and spoke to an officer about an event that occurred in early February when a Jefferson Police Department officer performed a traffic stop on a vehicle in the 600 block of 220th Street. A female passenger told the officer she did not have her identification with her and provided the officer with a name and date of birth. The caller said the female had actually giver the caller’s information and not her own. The caller gave the true identity of the female, who has numerous outstanding arrest warrants in surrounding counties. An arrest warrant has been requested for Amber Lea Nelson, 32, of Denison for providing false information to an officer–simple and interference with official acts-simple.
  • Napa Motor Parts reported receiving a counterfeit $100 bill at 1603 N. Elm St. The bill was exchanged during a business transaction at the business Feb. 11.
  • The Juvenile Court Officer requested assistance from an officer in gathering a urine analysis kit on a juvenile at the courthouse.
  • Jeri Gettler said she fell victim to a ransomware scam on her home computer at 601 W. Mahlon St. Gettler said her computer screen went white and had a phone number with instructions to call. She called the number and was advised her computer had numerous viruses and requested payment of $298. to repair the computer before she lost all her files and information. Gettler provided a credit card number to the caller. She later discovered a charge of $899 to the card account. Gettler is working with the card company to close the account.
  • Bob Billmier spoke with an officer about a possible phone scam. Billmier received a voicemail  claiming to be from the U.S. Internal Revenue Service and claiming he needed to call a number. The officer advised him it was most likely a scam because the IRS will not contact you by phone.
  • Jackie Cram advised of a suspicious van parked in the 600 block of W. Washington Street. She reported two males sitting in the van. The officer did not locate the van.
  • Chelse Sanderson reported a theft at 504 N. Chestnut St. Sanderson said she ordered a package from an online company, but it never arrived. She checked with the company, who verified it had been left on her porch Feb. 10. The value of the ordered items was $173.55.
  • Rick Killion reported a criminal mischief occurring to his son’s vehicle at 101 Ram Drive. Someone had damaged a tire on the vehicle. The damage estimate was $85 to replace the tire. The officer is investigating.
  • A juvenile female called said her mother was upset and assaulting her brother. She said she had been pushed out of the house, and the door was now locked. When the officer arrived at 600 W. Lincoln Way, all three young children were standing outside. They advised they were pushed out of the house and that their mother locked the door. The officer attempted to make contact with the mother, but she would not come to the door. The children were taken to a grandparent’s residence and the Iowa Department of Human Services was contacted by the officer.
  • Amy Baugh reported the possible theft of a dog kennel from 602 W. Lincoln Way.
  • The Greene County Hospital emergency room requested an officer for an animal bite. The officer learned the resident at 402 S.Wilson Ave. attempted to break up two of her dogs that were fighting. In doing so, she received a small cut on her finger. The animals were current on rabies vaccinations and compliant with city licensing.
  • A traffic stop was performed at State and Elm streets, resulting in Rebecca Lynn Chumbley of Grand Junction being issued a citation for excessive speed.
  • While conducting business checks, an officer located an open door at 401 W. McKinley St.
  • * A 14-year-old male juvenile has been charged with unlawful possession of prescription drugs after the completion of an investigation that began Feb. 11 at 706 N. Cedar Street.

*A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
