  • Officers assisted a deputy at the Greene County emergency room with someone who was in the deputy’s custody.
  • An officer removed a feral cat from a live trap in the 300 Block of Rushview Drive.
  • Brenda Wood advised of a chainsaw in the roadway on Elm Street near Central Avenue. The officer did not locate the reported item.
  • Officers were called to 601 S. Chestnut Street for a reported domestic abuse assault occurring there. Officers arrived and made contact with a female, who advised a verbal argument occurred between her and a boyfriend. The male left the area before the officers’ arrival. The female refused to cooperate with officers and denied being assaulted. The officers did not locate any injuries or markings consistent with an assault on the female.
  • Brooke Lynn Hayes, 19, of Jefferson was taken into custody by the officer for an outstanding Carroll County arrest warrant. The warrant was for failure to appear on an original charge of third-degree theft.
  • Craig Burbank reported a piece of metal in the roadway in the 1000 block of N. Elm Street. The officer did not locate anything in the area.
  • A caller reported traffic issues occurring in the 400 block of E. Russell Street. The officer responded to the area and found nothing out of the ordinary occurring with the traffic in the area of the school.
  • An officer was requested at McFarland Clinic at 106 W. Washington St. The officer was told a male patient was making unwanted verbal advances towards a staff member at the clinic. The male was waiting in the parking lot to speak to the female as she leaves work. The clinic requested the officer serve the male with a ban-and-bar statement, advising him he is not welcome at the facility any further. The officer made contact with the male and served the statement. The male said he would no longer be a problem.
  • Shannon Otterson reported the theft of a bicycle from 300 E. State St.
  • An officer was requested to stand by at 203 E. Adams St. while a credit company repossessed a vehicle from the residence. The vehicle was returned without incident.
  • Test results returned on items seized during a traffic stop Dec. 2, 2017, in the 100 block of W. Central Ave. An arrest warrant has been requested for Shawn J. Gifford, 27, of Jefferson for first-offense possession of a controlled substance-marijuana.

*A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
