May 17, 2019

  • An officer located a dog running at large in the 900 block of S. Chestnut Street near children at the bus stop. The officer followed the dog to 106 Sunset Place, and Nancy Winger was issued a citation for animal at large prohibited.
  • A caller advised of an elderly female with dementia walking in the 200 block of S. Chestnut Street. The caller said the female should not be alone away from home. An officer made contact with the female and made some calls to get her returned home safely.
  • A local retail store requested a welfare check on a female in the 1000 block of W. Adams Street. An officer was familiar with the female, who was fine.
  • Ron LeMay reported a female sitting in the rain at Walton Woods, 1000 W. Adams St. LeMay said he was concerned for her welfare.
  • An officer attempted to stop a vehicle near Lincoln Way and Cedar Street with a driver not wearing his seat belt. The vehicle did not stop until it pulled into the residence at 500 E. Clark St. The male driver exited the vehicle and fled on foot. The officer gave a short foot chase and caught the male in the 600 block of N. Cedar Street. The officer arrested Christopher Herbert Lawrence, 39 of Jefferson for interference with official acts, driving while suspended and failure to wear safety belts.
  • Officers were requested at the Genesis Home, 107 Lincoln Place, for a reported assault. An officer learned a client threw a cell phone at a staff member and struck her with it. The officer arrested James Christopher Tornabane-Vanderpool, 21, of Jefferson on a charge of assault-simple.
  • An officer assisted a motorist with tire issues on Iowa Highway 4 south of Jefferson near 250th Street.
  • A traffic stop in the 600 block of N. Elm Street resulted in Simon Andre of Jefferson being issued a citation for excessive speed.

May 18, 2019

  • A traffic stop on 220th Street near Mulberry Street resulted in Ronal Eugenio Gonzalez Argueta of Minnesota being issued a citation for failure to have a valid driver’s license and operation without registration.
  • A local business requested officers at 777 Wild Rose Lane for a disturbance occurring outside the business. An officer spoke to a male who was involved in an altercation with another male, who left before the arrival of officers. The male refused to cooperate and said he did not support criminal charges against the other male.
  • A traffic stop on 220th Street near Mulberry Street resulted in Daniel Schappaugh of Colorado being issued a citation for excessive speed.
  • Connie Carstens reported juveniles ringing her doorbell and running away from 1206 Riverside Drive. An officer arrived in the area but did not locate anyone.
  • Rich Osborn reported a trailer blocking the roadway in the 200 block of W. Madison Street. An officer located a tree company cutting trees in the area. The road had been blocked for safety reasons.
  • Charles Heimer reported a vehicle parked at the city’s gravel pile in the 900 block of N. Cedar Street. Heimer said a male was loading gravel into his vehicle. An officer located the male, who was an employee of the city of Jefferson, and learned the gravel would fill a pothole.
  • Craig Johnson requested a welfare check on his juvenile daughter after she ended a phone call with him. An officer made contact with the daughter, who was fine.
  • An officer assisted the Greene County Ambulance with a medical call in the 1000 block of W. Adams Street.
  • A traffic stop was performed with a vehicle in the 1400 block of N. Elm Street. The officer arrested Kristina Marie Jordan, 28, of Estherville on an Emmet County warrant for failure to appear on a parking ticket.
  • An officer responded to a fire alarm at a local business at 771 Wild Rose Lane. It was determined the elevator overheated, but no fire was present, and no damage was reported.

May 19, 2019

  • An officer performed a traffic stop with a speeding vehicle in the 1800 block of N. Elm Street. The officer’s investigation led to the arrest of James Michael Gorman, 50, of New York for first-offense OWI, first-offense possession of a controlled substance-marijuana, possession of adrug paraphernalia and failure to provide proof of financial liability.
  • A caller reported a suspicious vehicle behind 777 Wild Rose Lane. An officer did not locate the reported vehicle.
  • A local retail store reported a gas drive-off from 208 W. Lincoln Way. The motorist left without paying for $39.52 in fuel. The store was later contacted by the motorist, and the debt was paid.
  • An officer performed a traffic stop in the 1900 block of N. Elm Street. During the stop, the driver provided the officer with a false name and date of birth. When confronted with this by the officer, the male gave his real identity. The officer learned the male was wanted on a Webster County warrant for fourth-degree theft. The officer arrested Tony J. Scalf, 45, of Nebraska for providing false identification information, driving while suspended and improper rear lamps. Scalf will be transported to Webster County to face the outstanding warrant.
  • A traffic stop on 220th Street near Mulberry Street resulted in Jose Munoz of Denison being issued a citation for excessive speed.
  • A local retail store reported the theft of a CB radio speaker from 606 U.S. Highway 30 East. The business provided the officer with a female suspect. The investigation continues.
  • Jeremiah Pedersen reported criminal mischief to a window at his residence of 903 W. Adams St. An officer believes the window and screened were damaged by a BB gun. The damage estimate was $250.
  • Teresa Gaver reported the theft of prescription medications from 1000 W. Adams St, #6. Gaver could not provide the number of missing items and advised she last saw them two months ago.

*A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
