May 26, 2017

  • A traffic stop was performed at Lincoln Way and Elm Street, resulting in Joseph Michael Glasgow of Jefferson being issued a citation for failure to obey stop sign.
  • An officer investigated a backing accident at 508 N. Elm St. A 2007 Jeep Liberty, owned and operated by Lucas Fisher of Dana, was backing in the lot and struck the vehicle that was driving past him, a 2007 Mitsubishi, owned and operated by Kayleigh Harrah of Jefferson. The Harrah vehicle suffered a reported $1,500 in damage. The Fisher vehicle had very light damage, estimated at $100. No citation was issued as the incident occurred on private property.
  • An officer conducted a funeral escort.
  • A traffic stop was performed at Adams and State streets, resulting in Tim Healy of Jefferson being issued a citation for operation without registration.
  • Maribelle Rivera requested a welfare check on a male at 502 W. Harrison St. An officer made contact with the male, who was fine.
  • An officer investigated a two-vehicle property damage accident at the intersection of Lincoln Way and Vine Street. A 1998 Pontiac Sunfire, owned by Melissa Smith and operated by Monica Smith of Jefferson, was travelling east in the 200 block of W. Lincoln Way. At the intersection with Vine Street, a vehicle performed a left turn in front of Smith. The 1999 Lexus RX3 was owned by Efren Payan and was operated by Natalie Efren, both of Rippey. The officer estimated damages to each vehicle at $3,000. Efren was issued a citation for fail to yield upon left turn.
  • An officer was requested at 806 W. Washington St. for a reported domestic situation between a 16-year-old male and his mother. The officer arrived and learned the male juvenile was to be picked up by the Rabiner Treatment Facility for the weekend. The juvenile was not cooperating with his mother in getting ready. The juvenile ultimately grabbed his mother by the wrists, causing injuries to her. The officer brought the juvenile to the Law Enforcement Center to be picked up by Rabiner staff. The officer will be sending an assault charge to the Juvenile Court Officer for the male juvenile.
  • A traffic stop was performed 1400 block of N. Elm Street, resulting in Benito Ortiz of Grand Junction being issued a citation for no valid driver’s license and failure to provide proof of financial liability.”
  • A traffic stop was performed in the 1400 Block of N. Elm Street, resulting in Lucas Hejlik being issued a citation for operation without registration.
  • A traffic stop was performed in the 1400 block of N. Elm Street, resulting in David Brosh of Scranton being issued a citation for open container.
  • The Greene County Hospital requested an officer for a cat bite that occurred at 304 E. Vest St. A female was bitten by a kitten living under her deck. The animal has been placed in quarantine until testing can be conducted for rabies.
  • An officer investigated a two-vehicle property damage accident at Elm Street and Lincoln Way. A 2002 Pontiac Bonneville, owned and operated by Angela Jennings of Jefferson, was eastbound on Lincoln Way and stopped at the posted stop sign at Elm Street and Lincoln Way. A 2014 Ram 1500, owned by Subway restaurant and operated by Deb Morrell of Jefferson, was northbound on S. Elm Street. Morrell left the posted stop sign and was turning left to be westbound on Lincoln Way, and the Morrell vehicle made contact with the front of the Jennings vehicle as it was sitting at the stop sign. Morrell stated she swerved to avoid a cat during the turn. The Jennings vehicle had a reported $2,000 in damages to the front, while the Subway vehicle had $1,000 in reported damages to the driver’s side. Morrell was issued a citation for failure to yield half the roadway.

May 27, 2017

  • Kurt Meinecke reported loud music in the 700 block of N. Cedar Street.
  • An officer was leaving the parking lot of the Law Enforcement Center when he witnessed a female running from 104 E. Monroe St. The female was holding a baby as she ran and was bleeding from a cut on her forehead. The officer’s investigation led to the arrest of Steven Logan Dzuris, 29, of Jefferson for third-offense domestic abuse assault.
  • A caller reported a barking dog in the 700 block of W. Monroe Street.
  • An officer assisted with a medical call in the 800 block of W. Adams Street.
  • Michael Kennedy reported a neighbor was videotaping his residence at 101 Lincoln Place. An officer advised Kennedy that nothing illegal was occurring, just unusual behavior by a neighbor.
  • An officer assisted the Greene County EMS with a medical call in the 100 block of S. Grimmell Road.
  • Alexis Jordon spoke with an officer concerning a civil child custody issue occurring at 104 E. Monroe St.
  • The occupant of 102 E. Monroe St. requested an officer. The occupant appeared intoxicated and spoke to the officer about getting help for an addiction to alcohol.
  • Michael Godwin reported being harassed by text message. An officer made contact with the other person involved and advised him to end the unwanted contact.

May 28, 2017

  • Officers assisted The Greene County EMS with a medical call in the 1000 block of W. Adams Street.
  • Lila Mart reported a suspicious person at 1000 W. Adams St. An officer knew the person as another resident of the complex, and he shared this information with Mart.
  • Officers assisted with a medical call in the 800 block of W. Adams Street.
  • Heather Garcia reported the theft of her purse from a vehicle parked in the 200 block of N. Locust Street. Garcia found the purse a short time later and advised it had not been taken.
  • An officer investigated a backing accident in the parking lot at 303 N. Elm St. A 2014 Ford Focus, owned by Misty Bettey of Scranton, was parked at the gas pumps when a 2008 Chevrolet Impala, owned and operated by Henry Christiansen of Jefferson, was backing from a parking place next to the business and backed into the Bettey vehicle. Both vehicles suffered extremely light damage. Christiansen was issued a  citation for failure to provide proof of financial liability.
  • Hy-Vee requested an officer at 106 W. Washington St. for a male who stole alcohol from the business. An officer’s investigation led to the arrest of Timothy Darrell Emery, 50, of Ames for fifth-degree theft.
  • An officer removed a bat from 301 E. Lincoln Way.
  • Rick Morain advised of fireworks being set off in the 300 block of S. Maple Street. An officer spoke to subjects at 304 S. Maple St. about the issue.

May 29, 2017

  • A traffic stop was performed in the 200 block of W. Lincoln Way, resulting in Kelly Moore of West Des Moines being issued a citation for excessive speed.
  • A traffic stop was performed in the 500 block of W. Lincoln Way, resulting in Jean Gliem of Jefferson being issued a citation for operation without registration.
  • Kum & Go reported the theft of 10 plastic tubs from behind the business at 303 N. Elm St. The tubs are owned by Farner Bocken and are used for deliveries to the business.
  • An officer covered a backing accident occurring at the Jefferson Cemetery at 1019 E. Lincoln Way. A 2005 Dodge Ram 1500, owned and operated by Delmar Hobart of Prole, backed into a 2006 Chrysler Pacifica, owned and operated by Brian Wilson of Jefferson. The Wilson vehicle had a reported $1,500 in damages, while the Hobart vehicle had a reported $500 in damages.
  • Don Wolf reported a male pounding on the Wells Fargo ATM in the 200 block of W. Washington Street. An officer made contact with the male and learned he was making repairs to the ATM.
  • A traffic stop was performed at Lincoln Way and Elm Street, resulting in Jennifer Oakes of Paton being issued a citation for failure to wear safety belt.
  • Jane Parker advised she located a stray Yorkie near Wilson and Park streets. An officer placed the animal in the Animal Holding Facility.
  • A traffic stop was performed at Central Street and Grimmell Road, resulting in Greg Hackler of Jefferson being issued a citation for driving while suspended.
  • A traffic stop was performed in the 100 block of E. Lincoln Way, resulting in Lacey Ganoe of Jefferson being issued a citation for dark windows.
  • A traffic stop was performed in the 500 block of N. Elm Street, resulting in Bailey Ackerman of Jefferson being issued a citation for failure to wear safety belt.
  • Regina Romeo of Lake City said her two juvenile children were somewhere in Jefferson, and she wanted them to return home to Lake City. An officer did not locate the two juveniles in town.
  • An officer removed debris from the roadway at 220th and Elm streets.
  • Alexis Jordan spoke with an officer concerning a civil property issue.

May 30, 2017

  • While conducting business door checks, an officer located an open door at 1016 E. Lincoln Way.
  • Nellie Petterson requested an officer at 107 N. Olive St. because her dogs began barking, and she believed someone was walking near her house. An officer did not locate anyone in the immediate area.
  • Julie Byerly advised of a missing vehicle from 202 W. Adams St. The vehicle was in the driveway of the residence when the officer arrived a few minutes later. Byerly advised it must have just been returned because it was not parked there a few minutes prior. The officer is investigating.
  • An officer performed a funeral escort.
  • A female requested an officer at 705 W. Harrison St. A tow service was repossessing her vehicle, and the driver would not let her get her belongings from inside the vehicle. When the officer arrived, she was removing her property from the vehicle and did not need assistance from the officer.
  • David Roquet advised of receiving a scam phone call. The caller claimed someone filed a lawsuit against him and wanted to collect payment. Roquet did not incur a loss.
  • An officer was advised a vehicle had been parked in Ferguson Circle for several days now. The officer is contacting the owner to remove the vehicle.
  • A school employee brought a dog to the Law Enforcement Center that was found in the parking lot at 101 Ram Drive. An officer placed the animal in the Animal Holding Facility.
  • A traffic stop was performed in the 100 block of N. Pinet Street, resulting in Daniel Pittman of Jefferson being issued a citation for dark windows.
  • An officer assisted a resident in the 500 block of S. Locust Street who was locked out of the residence.
  • Denny Jordan turned in a wallet he had found. An officer contacted the wallet’s owner to pick it up.
  • A caller advised of a possible child abuse occurring in Jefferson. An officer is working with the Iowa Department of Human Services to look into the report.
  • A traffic stop was performed at Lincoln Way and Grimmell Road, resulting in Sean Mason of Bayard being issued a citation for failure to obey stop sign.
  • Callers advised of a dog tearing up trash bags in the area of S. Elm and Edgewood streets. An officer spoke to residents in the area and advised them about the issue. He issued a verbal warning to the owner and gave the owner a period of time to get the animal current on license.
  • Alexis Jordan spoke with an officer concerning a civil child custody issue.
  • A traffic stop was performed in the 200 block of N. Maple Street, resulting in Sophia Havens of Jefferson being issued a citation for violation of conditions of minor’s school license.
  • An officer investigated a two-vehicle property damage accident at Elm Street and Lincoln Way. A 2003 Dodge Durango, owned and operated by Paul Gehling of Scranton, was stopped at the posted stop sign at the intersection, and a 2007 Eton Moped, owned and operated by Sawyer Schiltz of Jefferson, was stopped behind the Gehling vehicle. Schiltz said his hand slipped, causing him to move forward and strike the rear corner of the Gehling vehicle. Both vehicles suffered very light damages. Schiltz was issued a citation for failure to maintain control.
  • Landa Venteicher reported an injured fawn in the yard at 800 W. Adams Street. An officer advised her the mother would return after dark for the fawn.
  • An officer covered a car-versus-deer accident at 220th and Elm streets. A 2014 Ford F150, owned and operated by Jennifer Noccola of Temperance, Mich., struck a deer as her vehicle approached the intersection from the west. The vehicle had a reported $1,000 in front-end damage.
  • An officer spoke to a group of juveniles near Wilson and Washington streets. He advised the group of curfew hours and contacted their parents and advised them as well.

May 31, 2017

  • Michael Godwin reported he was stranded in Des Moines and wished for officers to watch his residence at 303 S. Grimmell Road.
  • A caller reported a suspicious vehicle in the Catholic cemetery. An officer did not locate the vehicle.
  • An officer located an open door at 801 W. Lincoln Way.
  • An officer issued a parking violation notice in the 500 block of S. Walnut Street for vehicle parked facing wrong direction.
  • An officer performed a funeral escort.
  • Curt Hastings reported workers digging a hole with a backhoe on the east side of Hy-Vee. Hastings said they had not checked locations of utilities in the area.
  • An officer was requested at the Jefferson City Hall to assist with a difficult person.
  • A caller reported a vehicle with children who are not in car seats near the 400 block of E. Russell Street. An officer made contact with the vehicle and spoke to the driver about the importance of buckling children in car seats.
  • An officer assisted the Juvenile Court Officer at the courthouse with an unruly juvenile.
  • Mike Nicolini, of Massillon, Ohio, reported his vehicle was struck while parked at 207 W. Gallop Road. The 2001 Honda Accord suffered a reported $1,500 in damages.
  • Scott Carroll reported $300 in change missing from his garage at 513 S. Chestnut St. An officer is investigating.
  • An officer assisted a worker with a spray applicator that had broken down in the 1800 block of N. Elm Street.
  • A caller advised of a German shepherd running freely in the 600 block of Rushview Drive. An officer did not locate the animal.
  • Nellie Petterson requested an officer at 107 N. Olive St. for an argument between her and her juvenile son. Petterson said the officer he was no longer needed when he arrived at the residence.

*A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
