The second annual Community Drop-Off Day will be held Saturday, June 1 from 8 a.m. to noon at the Pattee Park parking lot on W. Third Street.

Perry’s second annual Community Drop-Off Day is this Saturday, June 1 from 8 a.m. until noon at the Pattee Park parking lots on W. Third Street.

City crews will be on hand to help residents unload their cars, pick-up trucks, vans and vehicles pulling trailers and dispose of their unwanted items at the landfill for a nominal fee..

Perry residents may drop off unwanted bicycles, carpet and padding, doors, furniture, windows and miscellaneous junk and bagged garbage for the following fees:

Car Load: $5. This includes single items, such as chairs, doors, etc., or loads contained in a car or small SUV.

Truck Load: $15. Loads in a large SUV, minivan or pick-up truck.

Large Load: $30. Loads in a pick-up truck stacked higher than the cab or loads in a passenger van, flatbed truck or trailer.

Appliances: FREE. These items must be dropped off with HW Recycling at the Parking Lot at Pattee Park. H and W Recycling will accept all junk appliances, riding or walk-behind mowers, backyard grills, exercise equipment, scrap metal and electronics at no charge. All appliances must be empty and cleaned out.

Televisions and Monitors: $15 to $30 per item depending on size. These items must be dropped off with HW Recycling at the Parking Lot at Pattee Park.

The city will not accept the following items: car, truck or tractor tires, hazardous materials of any kind, batteries of any kind, paint cans (unless empty and/or dried out), brush, concrete, yard waste or garden waste.

If a resident is unable to deliver the unwanted items to the collection site, the city of Perry will also pick these items up at any time throughout the year at an additional charge. Call the Perry City Hall at 515-465-2481 to schedule a special pick up.

This event is for Perry residents only and payment must be made in full at the time of drop-off and must be in the form of cash or check.

The Community Drop-Off Day replaced the city’s annual curbside collection for the first time in 2018.

Saturday, June 16 from 8 a.m. until noon will bring the city’s annual used tire collection. The drop-off point will again be the Perry Recycle Center located at 14325 Ivy Place. The first five car tires can be dropped off for free, with a $1-per-tire charge for each additional car tire beyond the first five.Disposing large truck and tractor tires will cost $5.00 each. All tires must be removed from the rims. The tire drop-off is available to Perry residents only, and tires from businesses will not be accepted.The city of Perry’s annual household hazardous waste collection is scheduled for Saturday, July 21 from 9 a.m. until noon at the Police Station/Fire Station parking lot located at 908 Willis Ave. Items accepted include antifreeze, batteries (only rechargeable), cleaners, fertilizers, fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs), glues, gasoline and kerosene, motor oil (used), oil filters (used), oil-based paint, pesticides, poisons, pool chemicals, roofing tar, stains, varnishes, thermostats, thermometers (mercury), vegetable oil, weed killers and windshield fluid.Items that will not be accepted include ammunition, asbestos, electronics, explosives, fire extinguishers, latex paint, medications, propane tanks and radioactive materials.
