Last rites for Sabrina set for Sunday in Earlham

A celebration of life service for Sabrina Ray will be held Sunday, Sept. 30 from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Earlham Church of Christ at 535 N.W. Sixth St. in Earlham. 

The biological family of Sabrina Ray has announced a celebration of life service will be held for the 16-year-old Perry girl, who died May 12, 2017.

The service will take place Sunday, Sept. 30 from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Earlham Church of Christ at 535 N.W. Sixth St. in Earlham.

The Busch family received the remains of Sabrina Sept. 6 from the Iowa Department of Human Services. The ashes of Sabrina have been in the care of Hastings Funeral Home in Perry since shortly after her death.

The Busch family has invited the community to attend the celebration of life.

Sabrina’s adoptive parents, Marc and Misty Ray of Perry, await trial on first-degree murder charges in the death of Sabrina.

Sabrina was placed in foster care with the Rays in 2011, and they formally adopted her in 2013. The teenager died of severe malnutrition, according to an autopsy report by the Iowa Medical Examiner’s office, weighing 56 pounds at the time of her death.
