Latino voter outreach effort a big success, Dallas Dems say

Saturday’s Latino voter registration drive was a success, according to a spokesperson for the Dallas County Democrats.

The event was held at the DMACC Perry VanKirk Academy, where about a dozen Democrat volunteers were on hand to welcome registrants, help with translating and explaining voting rules and inform people of their rights.

Joining Saturday’s gathering were Des Moines Public School Board Vice Chair Maria Alonzo, Dallas County organizer Ava Brittain, Dallas County Elections Clerk Megan Brittain, Dallas County Democrats Central Committee member Misty Cornelius, Democratic candidate for Dallas County Attorney Meggan Guns, Iowa League of United Latin American Citizens Political Director Joe Henry, Perry Democrat Javier Hernandez, Iowa Migrant Movement for Justice Executive Director Erica Johnson, Urbandale organizer Margo Kromminga, Perry Area Democrats organizer Monica Peitz, La Reina Radio personality Fabiola Schirrmeister,  West Des Moines organizer Brena Schwartz-Corona and Dallas County Democrats Central Committee Chair Tom Walton.
