December 12, 2016

  • An officer took a report of fraud after a Madrid resident had his debit card used at an out-of-town Walmart.
  • An officer spoke to a county resident regarding school pick up for his kids.
  • An officer returned a call to a female regarding reports involving a drug case and DHS case.
  • An officer took a report of a reckless driver heading into town. The officer was unable to locate the vehicle.
  • An officer spoke to a resident who reported his mailbox along with several neighbors’ mailboxes were damaged by a vehicle sometime in the past two weeks. The officer located the person driving the vehicle, and she agreed to fix the damage for the owners.
  • An officer spoke to a resident regarding picking up copies of past police reports.
  • An officer completed the necessary paperwork for the Division of Criminal Investigation to process recovered property stemming from vehicle burglaries.

December 13, 2016

  • An officer assisted the Madrid Volunteer Fire Department on an emergency medical call in the 400 block of E. First Street.
  • An officer spoke to a Madrid resident regarding fraudulent transactions on her husband’s debit card.
  • An officer met with a Madrid resident and gave him copies of reports that he requested.
  • An officer assisted the Madrid Volunteer Fire Department on an emergency medical call at the Tiger Bowl.
  • An officer performed a vehicle unlock in the 900 block of S. Kennedy Street.
  • An officer talked to a Madrid resident who reported that his ATM card was fraudulently used at six different Walmarts throughout the state. He will be in to make a report after he gets the information from his bank. This is the third report of fraud where the fraudulent parties have spent at Walmart. The Madrid Police Department urges consumers to check their bank statements closely around the holiday season.
  • An officer stopped and warned a semi on State Street for being off the truck route.

December 14, 2016

  • An officer sent an accident report to an insurance company.
  • An officer spoke with another Madrid resident who had her debit card compromised and used at a Walmart. The officer spoke to the bank and got some information to try and track down what all the accounts have in common.
  • An officer unlocked a vehicle for someone in the 900 block of S. State Street.
  • An officer met with a juvenile at Polk County Juvenile Intake in order to acquire fingerprints and to charge the juvenile with additional burglary charges stemming from multiple vehicle burglaries in Madrid that previously occurred.
  • An officer took a report of a dog, located in the back yard of a residence, that appeared to be in distress due to the cold weather. The officer spoke to the owner and observed nothing to be wrong with the animal. Everything checked okay.

December 15, 2016

  • An officer was dispatched to a careless driver southbound on Iowa Highway 17 coming into town. The officer was unable to locate the vehicle.
  • An officer spoke to another person who had his debit card compromised and used at a Walmart store.
  • An officer met with staff at Git N’ Go and found evidence that appeared a card skimmer had been put in one of the gas pumps at some time and later removed.
  • An officer assisted the Madrid Volunteer Fire Department with an emergency medical call in the 300 block of N. Locust Street.
  • An officer finished up a past case and sent all the information to the Boone County Juvenile Court Services.
  • An officer assisted Boone County Deputy Sheriffs with a notification to a family member after the family member’s spouse had a medical related accident in the County.
  • An officer took a report of a lost dog.

December 16, 2016

  • An officer delivered evidence to the Department of Criminal Investigation in Ankeny for testing.
  • An officer assisted Boone County Deputy Sheriffs in attempting to locate someone so that paperwork could be served.
  • An officer unlocked a vehicle at the Tiger Bowl.
  • An officer did a welfare check on a subject on Fairview Drive.
  • An officer responded to a report of an intoxicated male attempting to enter someone’s house in the 800 block of Cedar Street. The male was polite but was very confused. The man left his coat, vest and stocking cap at the residence and left on foot. The officer took possession of the property and searched the area but was unable to locate the male.

December 17, 2016

  • An officer unlocked a vehicle for someone in the 500 block of W. Second Street.
  • An officer assisted the Boone County Sheriff’s office regarding a vehicle that drove into the ditch due to the icy roads east of Madrid on Iowa Highway 210. The occupants were uninjured, and several people stopped to assist in removing the vehicle from the ditch. The driver was warned for failure to maintain control and released with the vehicle.
  • An officer spoke to someone regarding a property dispute. The officer advised on the person on a civil issue.
  • An officer followed up with a past case regarding a vehicle striking several mailboxes and then leaving the scene.
  • An officer took a report of a domestic in the 600 block of S. Kennedy Street. Upon arrival it was determined to be an argument between a child and family member. Everything checked okay and was verbal only.
  • An officer was dispatched to the 400 block of Newton Road regarding a 911 hang-up call placed from that residence. It was determined that there was a male subject with a knife inside who was very emotionally disturbed. The officer held the man at gunpoint but was able to talk him into dropping the weapon without incident. The man was transported to the Boone County Hospital for psychiatric help.

December 18, 2016

  • An officer assisted with a stalled vehicle on Iowa Highway 17 in front of Git-n-Go.
  • An officer responded to Brodie Lane for a report of an owner leaving a dog outside in the lower temperatures for too long. The officer was unable to locate an animal at large. The reported negligent owner does not own a dog.

*A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
