Taylor Kathryn Wiese, 21, of Madrid faces theft charges in connection with more than $3,500 in pull-tab lottery tickets found missing from her former workplace at the Git-N-Go in Madrid.

A Madrid woman was arrested Jan. 16 in connection with the theft of lottery tickets from her former workplace at a Madrid covenience store.

Taylor Kathryn Wiese, 21, was charged in Boone County District Court with four counts of theft of a lottery ticket and one count of second-degree theft.

According to a statement released Wednesday by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI), representatives from the Iowa Lottery in September conducted a routine audit of an Iowa Lottery pull-tab machine at the Git-N-Go store at 501 E. Second St. in Madrid.

The audit revealed that $3,535.25 worth of pull-tab tickets were missing from the machine.

The Madrid Police Department, with DCI assistance, conducted an investigation of the missing tickets, and Wiese, a former employee of Git-N-Go, was identified as a suspect in the theft.

Officers of the Madrid Police Department and the DCI interviewed Wiese Nov. 18, 2018. She admitted she stole a large number of pull-tab tickets during her employment with Git-N-Go, according to the DCI.

Wiese was arrested and released on her own recognizance by Boone County District Associate Judge Stephen A. Owen. Wiese entered a plea of not guilty Feb. 1, and her jury trial has been scheduled for April 2 in Boone County District Court.

This was a joint investigation by the Madrid Police Department, the Division of Criminal Investigation, the Iowa Lottery and the Boone County Attorney’s office.
