Man escapes safely from midnight house fire in Woodward

Woodward firefighters entered the attic of the house at 502 Cedar Ave. about midnight Wednesday after a fire broke out in the 89-year-old structure. The sole occupant escaped unharmed.

The sole occupant of a house at 502 Cedar Ave. in Woodward escaped unharmed late Wednesday when a fire broke out inside the one-story structure.

The fire was reported shortly before midnight.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation at this hour, but Woodward Volunteer Fire Department Chief Ken Cavanaugh said it appeared to be an electrical fire.

The 89-year-old house is a rental property owned by Wayde and Julia Burkhart, according to county records.

The Woodward Volunteer Fire Department responded to the incident, receiving mutual aid from the Granger Volunteer Fire Department and the Madrid Volunteer Fire Department. The Woodward Police Department, Dallas County Sheriff’s office and Dallas County EMS also responded.
