The sentence followed Goshon’s August guilty plea. He faced a maximum term of 10 years on the charge.

The case originated from a warrant issued from the Madrid Police Department. The Madrid police received a call in February from a property owner who leased a residence where Goshon lived.

While cleaning out the residence, the property owner noticed a duffel bag, and inside the bag were large baggies containing methamphetamine and a small baggie of marijuana.

Madrid police obtained a warrant and searched the duffel bag, finding 192.81 grams of methamphetamine, .46 grams of marijuana and 11.39 grams of psilocybin mushrooms.

Madrid police subsequently arrested and charged Goshon. The court gave him the maximum sentence based on his conduct prior to sentencing and on arguments by the prosecution, also imposing the mandatory minimum of 3.5 years in the state penitentiary.

Assistant Boone County Attorney Matt Speers prosecuted the case on behalf of the state. Goshen was represented by a local defense attorney.
