Merle Adamson will be honored July 7 in the Perry Golf and County Club's annual Memorial Golf Tournament.

Every July, the Perry Golf and Country Club honors the memory of a former member who had a significant impact on the club. This year the 11th annual Memorial Golf Tournament will be played Sunday, July 7 in honor of the late Merle Adamson.

Merle and his wife, Donna, were longtime members of Perry Golf and Country Club. They were active members, and Merle served on the club’s board of directors for some time. He was also very active in the golf leagues throughout the years.

Merle also had one of the most unique golf swings you will ever see. It was unique but very effective.

Merle was a very popular golfer among the members. He made a huge impact on Perry, too, working for 43 years for Oscar Mayer, IBP and Tyson and retiring as a general supervisor in 2007.

Merle was a great father to his two sons, often volunteering in the backyard for neighborhood football and baseball games. He also did some youth coaching and never missed his sons’ activities.

A longtime Hawkeye and Cub fan, Merle was very active with CB radios. He served as president of the Central Iowa CB Club and communicated with friends all across the U.S. and even made friends with several individuals overseas.

The July 7 Memorial Golf Tournament is open to anyone who would like to play. The Championship Flight will play 27 holes, while the Senior Division, Super Senior Division and all other flights will play 18 holes. The defending open champion is Jess Marlow, with Larry Hodges and John Putbrese the defending co-champions of the senior division.

To enter the Memorial Golf Tournament, call the PG&CC clubhouse at 515-465-3852.
