Ceremonies were held Thursday at the Hotel Pattee for the fifth graduating class of the DMACC/Tyson 1+2 Industrial Maintenance Program.
The ceremony included a welcome to graduates and family members from DMACC at Perry VanKirk Career Academy Site Director Eddie Diaz. Tyson Fresh Meats representative Rudy Zagar congratulated the graduates on behalf of the company.
“Industrial maintenance programs are important for the plant to run effectively,” Zagar said. “Your work will pay off in the future.”
Tino Martinez spoke on behalf of the graduating students and shared some lessons he learned about teamwork and skills he gained from the training while also expressing gratitude for the opportunities presented within the program.

Under the oversight of DMACC’s Continuing Education Department, the 1+2 training program is led by DMACC Adjunct Instructors Jim Von Behren and Ryan Helleso. Students receive a Tyson starting wage with a benefit-and-insurance package.
During the first year, employees take classes at the DMACC Perry VanKirk Center in the morning and work at the Tyson’s Perry plant in the afternoons and on Sunday. During the second and third years, employees work full-time at the Tyson plant.
The DMACC/Tyson 1+2 Industrial Maintenance Program topics include:
- Industrial electrical
- Motors and controls
- Hydraulics/pneumatics
- Welding
- Industrial mechanical maintenance
- Mechanical power transmission
