The National Weather Service office in Des Moines has issued a winter weather advisory remains in effect from noon Wednesday until noon Thursday as another winter system affects Iowa with a combination of freezing rain, freezing drizzle and snow.

Total snow accumulations of up to two inches and ice accumulations of one-tenth to two-tenths of an inch expected, with winds gusting as high as 35 mph by late morning Thursday.

There will be breaks and periods of lighter precipitation during the 24-hour event, the NWS said, but the combination of a frozen mix and moderate ice and snow accumulations will make for difficult travel. The slippery roads could impact the morning or evening commute.

Following the storm Thursday night, another round of Arctic cold will invade the region.

Along with Dallas County, the winter weather advisory comprises Sac, Calhoun, Webster, Hamilton, Hardin, Crawford, Carroll, Greene, Boone, Story, Marshall, Audubon, Guthrie, Polk, Jasper, Cass, Adair, Madison, Warren, Marion, Adams, Union, Clarke, Lucas, Taylor, Ringgold, Decatur and Wayne counties.
