The National Weather Service (NWS) office in Des Moines has issued a winter weather advisory from noon Friday until 6 a.m. Saturday for the Perry area.
Moderate snowfall of three to six inches and winds as high as 35 mph are expected Friday afternoon and evening and again Saturday as a large low-pressure system affects Iowa.
The first wave will bring snow and blowing snow, with freezing rain and a wintry mix, beginning Friday afternoon, the NWS said. A second push Saturday into the early evening hours will mainly bring snow and blowing snow. Moderate to heavy accumulations are expected over the southeast two-thirds of Iowa by the time the storm ends Saturday evening.
The NWS predicts travel could be very difficult during the storm, and areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the Friday evening commute.
Along with Dallas County, the winter weather advisory applies to Cass, Adair, Madison, Adams, Union and Taylor counties.
Perry is included in the winter weather advisory along with the cities of Waukee, Adel, Atlantic, Greenfield, Stuart, Adair, Fontanelle, Winterset, Earlham, Corning, Creston, Bedford, Lenox and New Market.
