ADEL — The Panorama wrestling team will have two representatives compete at the Feb. 15 2A district in Atlantic as a result of their efforts in Saturday’s sectional.

Wyatt Appleseth improved to 36-0 with a pair of wins to capture the top spot at 152 pounds, with Emry Colby recovering from a loss in the finals to place second at 145.

Logan Christe (120 pounds) and Cooper Anderson (182) nearly advanced, but each fell to third place on “prior” when an opponent who had defeated them dropped into the second-place match, thus winning by rule.

Class 2A No. 7 Winterset won the team race with 214 points, with Atlantic second at 206.5. Creston/Orient-Macksburg was third at 170.5, with Greene County (146) fourth, Panorama (120) fifth, Kuemper Catholic (110) sixth and ADM (104) seventh.

Appleseth received an opening bye, with scored a quick 37-second pin. Ranked fourth, he squared off with Winterset standout Tyler Brown (38-5), rated sixth. Appleseth won with a 4-2 decision to claim the top spot on the podium.

Colby (37-5) won by pin, in 1 minute, 6 seconds, and with a technical fall (15-0) in six minutes. He suffered a 6-1 loss to third-ranked Jack West (36-2) of Winterset, who went on to edge C/O-M’s Keaton Street, 10-8, to advance to district as a runner-up.

Christe (27-10) won by pin, in 3:33, but then lost by fall to Atlantic’s Ethan Follman (37-15). He won with a pin in 5:05 to stay alive, but lost on a prior when Follman lost in the finals.

Anderson (24-8) rebounded from a loss by fall to score a 16-0 technical fall in in only 126 seconds, but, when Riley Hoven — who had beaten Anderson — lost his finals match the Panorama grappler was bounced on a prior.

Landon Goodenberger (26-17) was 1-2 and finished fourth at 160, with Dillon Bennett (17-19) 1-2 and fourth at 170 while Keyton Van Gundy (16-24) was 0-2 and finished fourth at 195.

The Panthers did not have entrants at 113, 126 or 285 pounds.
