WAUKEE — The 2019 season opened in fine form for the Panorama girls golf team Monday as the Panthers broke both an individual and team school record in a WCAC triangular.

Van Meter won the meet with a 199, with Panorama carding a 206 and Earlham a 241. The 206 carded by the Panthers, as well as the team-leading 49 tallied by Abby Cobb, are both new school records for nine holes on a par 34 course. The former marks had each stood since 2007.

Alex Kurtz added a 51 and Taylor Raibikis and Gabby Welberg rounds of 53 to complete the Panther scoring. Gracie Phillips (68) and Sarah Kastner (80) also competed for Panorama.

“Gabby, Gracie and Sarah are all freshmen and they did really well,” Panther head coach Melissa Hochstetler said. “It was their first time playing in competition so I am really happy with their effort. We are a young team, but we have lots of potential.”

Kylie Carey (34) and London Willie (47) led Van Meter with the medalist and runner-up medalist scores. Shae Bernhardt (53) and Lindsey Golwitzer (65) also posted scores for the Bulldogs, with a 77 from Deslynn Coppinger not utilized.

Earlham had the minimum of four players required for a team score, with Meridith Hochstetler leading the way with a 51. Ashleigh Weesner (56), Kaylie Hohertz (60) and Ella Goodrich (74) also made the circuit for the Cardinals.

Panorama will return to action Monday when they host a coed meet at Lake Panorama National.
