Panthers split pair against Earlham cagers Wednesday

PANORA, Iowa — The Lady Panthers earned a big win at home Wednesday night, mauling the Earlham Cardinals 72-39.

“It was a complete game with more balanced scoring,” said Coach Boettcher. “We stress that any night can be your night, and it will depend on matchups.”

Earlham, ranked ninth in class 1A, is known for their outside shooting, and the Panthers were ready for them.

“The girls executed the hard close outs and played the gaps,” Coach Boettcher said.

Four of the five Panther starters ended the night scoring in double digits.

The Lady Panthers are now 4-0 overall and 2-0 in conference play. The play Friday night against West Central Valley in a Pink Out game, with players and fans wearing pink in honor of a friend or loved one.

The Panther boys came in knowing Earlham would be a tough game, and so it proved, with the Panthers losing 56-53 in a hard-fought contest.

Maddox Hammerstrom was the only Panther in double digits, hitting 20 points. Five other Panthers added to the score, but it was not enough to give them the win.

The Panthers will play West Central Valley Friday night in a Pink Out game.
