Paul R. Mickelson, 87, of Dallas Center passed away Tuesday, June 14, 2016, at the Mercy Medical Center-Westlakes in West Des Moines, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held Friday, June 17 at 10 a.m. at the Carris Family Funeral Home in Perry. Visitation will be Thursday, June 16 from 5-7 p.m. at the Carris Family Funeral Home in Perry. Burial will be in the Elmwood Cemetery in Minburn.

Memorials will be given to the family and may be left at the Carris Family Funeral Home. Online condolences may be sent at www.carrisfuneralhome.com.

Paul Raymond Mickelson was born March 20, 1929, at Perry, Iowa, to Anton Marinus and Jane Lund Mickelson.

He attended school at Alton Country School.

Paul was united in marriage to Eleanor Darlene Anderson at her parent’s home near Bouton, Iowa, June 2, 1951.

He served his country in the Korean Conflict. Following his military service, he returned home and farmed the remainder of his life.

He was a member of the Minburn United Methodist Church.

Paul was also a 50-year member of the Minburn American Legion Post #99 from 1962 to 2012 and then the Woodward American Legion Post #211 beginning in 2013.

He enjoyed woodworking, doing etchings on glass and making novelty items, and he loved giving the items he made to his friends and family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers; and six sisters.

He is survived by his wife, Eleanor Mickelson of Dallas Center; children, David (Pam) Mickelson of Bouton, Daryl (Kathy Klatt) Mickelson of Perry; Nancy (Brad) Kiefer of Ogden and Norma (Rob Wolfe) Carlson of Woodward; grandchildren, Matthew Mickelson, Andrew (Kelly) Mickelson, Jason (Angela) Mickelson, Nathan Mickelson, Chad (Erin) Spellman, Emily (Matt Merrick) Kiefer, Evan Kiefer, Ben Carlson and Brent Carlson; great-grandchildren, Eily Mickelson, James Spellman and Jackson Spellman; sister, Dulcie Taylor of Woodward; and several nieces and nephews.

  1. We’re so sorry for your loss and you all have our sympathies. Michael had a lot of good and memorable conversations with Paul. Praying for God’s love to console you and time to bring you all peace.
