After 22 years in their original location, the broadcast offices of PEGASUS TV 12, Perry’s local-access cable TV channel, have moved from Second Street to 1309 First Ave.

“We’re slowly settling in,” said longtime PEGASUS Coordinator Keith Knoll, “and getting used to where everything is.” Knoll’s gentle dog, Brittany, seemed pleased with the new arrangements.

Planning for the move began in November, with the final push coming at the end of April.  PEGASUS makes its video recording and editing equipment available to anyone in the Perry Community School District free of charge.

The only requirement is that the equipment be used to make a programs suitable for broadcasting on PEGASUS.

The television station’s First Avenue offices now adjoin those of Jamison Studios, whose owner, Jon Jamison, is also on the PEGASUS Board of Directors. The Second Street property, owned for many years by Joe Spellman of Bouton, was recently bought by Burton Property Management LLC, a Pilot Mound company.

PEGASUS — its classical-sounding acronym stands for Perry Educational Government Activities Sports for Us — was founded in 1994 as a 401(c) non-profit corporation. The station began broadcasting in 1996 at 1014 Second St.

Along with Knoll, who manages the day-to-day operations of the broadcast company, the PEGASUS Board includes President Dan Haymond, Vice President Larry Vodenik, Treasurer Jamison, Secretary Doug Wood and Board members Terry Schnirring and Sue Schnirring.

Funding for PEGASUS is provided through a cable franchise fee paid for by Mediacom and a PEG fee charged to every PEGASUS subscriber. The station’s annual budget is about $40,000.

Some of the regular PEGASUS programming includes meetings of the Perry City Council, the Perry Community School District Board of Directors and many Perry High School athletic events.

With its new studios at 1309 First Ave. in Perry, PEGASUS is always looking for volunteers and programs ideas. Contact PEGASUS at 515-465-3793.
