The Perry Blue Brigade finished a week of camp Friday, New director Brad Sparks (in Cubs hat, middle) said he was pleased with what he had seen so far.

The Perry marching band — the Perry Blue Brigade — completed a week of day-long camp Friday. Members were preparing for the upcoming competition season as well as for performances at four Bluejay football games, the first of which will be Sept. 8, when Perry hosts Ballard.

The camp was also an opportunity for students and new PHS Instrumental Music Instructor Brad Sparks to get to know each other a little better before the school year starts. Sparks, a Drake University grad, assumes the lead spot in place of the popular Brandon Weeks, who is now at North Polk.

“Brandon did great work here, and I hope to continue it,” Sparks said. “I really like the energy and enthusiasm I have seen so far and am eager to see what we are capable of.”

  1. Welcome, Brad. Since a number of members were missing at camp due to vacations, here is hoping that you will be able to enter the marching band in our 4th of July parade next year. This was something that was promised, but never actually happened. Best of luck to you in your new position here in Perry.
