Perry cross country opens season Thursday

GOWRIE, IA — The Bluejay and Jayette harriers both competed Thursday at the Southeast Valley Invitational, with two Perry boys and one girl earning individual medals.

The Jayettes were eighth in a nine-team field with 152 points, with Fort Dodge St. Edmond edging AC/GC, 67-68, for top honors.

Madrid’s Katelyn Brandhorst was the overall winner in 20 minutes, 29.59 seconds, with NW Webster’s Alissa Richman the runner-up in 20:41.

AC/GC (51) and Ogden (65) were the top two boys teams to finish, with Perry eighth of 11 with 191 points.

The fastest pair for the boys were Madrid’s Ethan Loutsenheiser (16:54.13) and teammate Clay Warson (17:09.63).

Taryn Nehring (23:18) was 16th to lead the Perry girls, with Julie Maylum (24:51, 24th), Natalie Castillo (26:56, 30th), Amy Diaz (26:56.41, 40th) and Mercedes Ponce (27:19, 42nd) also scoring. Mylah Meis (30:28) and Iliana Ledesma (34:54) also ran for Perry.

Nehring earned a medal, as did Bluejay runners Yonas Andemichael (19:19, 18th) and Thad Stewart (19:33, 23rd). Owen Myers (21:40, 42nd), Gannon Meis (21:46, 43rd) and Bryce Anliker (23:59, 65th) also scored, with AIdan Carlson (24:06) and Chad Gray (24:19) in action as well.

Ledesma is a freshman and all six others sophomores for the Jayettes. Anliker, Gray and Meis are Bluejay seniors, Andemichael, Myers and Carlson are sophomores, and Stewart is a freshman.

Perry will resume action Thursday at Grant Woods Park in Madrid for the annual Tiger Invite.
