On Monday the city of Perry was awarded the Keep Iowa Beautiful Robert D. Ray Award of Excellence in a ceremony in the office of Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds.

“The Keep Iowa Beautiful award program recognizes exceptional people and organizations that have gone above and beyond to create positive change in Iowa communities,” said Andy Frantz, executive director of Keep Iowa Beautiful. “Creating a stronger sense of pride in communities helps to improve the cultural and economic vitality where we live, work and raise a family.”

Perry Mayor Dirk Cavanaugh and Perry City Administrator Sven Peterson accepted the award on behalf of the community. Also attending the awards ceremony were Reynolds, Frantz, Iowa Lt. Gov. Adam Gregg and Vice Chair of the Keep Iowa Beautiful Board of Directors Mike Richardson.

The city of Perry was specifically commended “for fostering community engagement and historic preservation efforts through the work of local leaders and volunteers,” Frantz said.

According to a press statement, Keep Iowa Beautiful (KIB) was established in 2000 by its co-founders, former Iowa Gov. Robert D. Ray and founder and retired chairman of Casey’s General Stores Donald F. Lamberti, making Iowa the 23rd state affiliate of Keep America Beautiful.

KIB is a 501c3 charitable organization working with Iowa citizens, neighborhoods and communities in improving the vitality and cultural health of the state of Iowa, the statement said. KIB is building stronger communities to develop sustainable futures. For additional information, visit the Keep Iowa Beautiful website.
