Perry man arrested for allegedly assaulting father

A Perry man was arrested Thursday for allegedly assaulting his father in the home.

Shane Tylor Smith, 42, of 1309 W. Second St., Perry, was charged with third or subsequent offense domestic abuse assault.

The incident began about 6 p.m. Thursday, when the 66-year-old victim reported to the Perry Police Department that he had been assaulted by Smith.

The victim told the officer that Smith allegedly “shoved him to the ground,” according to court records.

The officers observed on the victim “a noticeable abrasion on his left hand” and “redness on his forehead,” and the victim complained of “shoulder and hip pain” from Smith’s “forcefully shoving the victim to the floor,” according to court records.

Smith is held in the Dallas County Jail on a $2,000 cash or surety bond. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Oct. 24 in Dallas County District Court.

He was convicted of assault causing bodily injury or mental illness in 2019 in Pottawattamie County District Court.
