The Perry volleyball team picked up their first HOIAC victory of the season Tuesday by knocking off visiting Saydel, 3-1.
Perry (2-8, 1-0) won the first game, 25-15, but Saydel (4-6, 0-2) rallied for a 25-19 win in game two. A 25-16 Perry win in the critical third set put the hosts in position to close out the win, which they did with a 25-23 squeaker in game four.
Perry served 78-of-92 in the match, a decent accuracy, but were helped greatly by 18 total aces.
Taylor Atwell was 20-23-6 and Ashley Cerna 14-14-6 while Charity Parnell was 17-21-2 behind the line and Maci Tunink 10-14-2. Addison Huntington was 9-10-2, Gaby Orellana 4-of-6 and Miley Sanchez 1-of-1.
Atwell distributed 18 assists, Orellana eight, Cerna and Yamilet Ortega two each and Tunink one. Cerna’s 15 kills led the offense, with Kathryn West adding 10. Callie Steva had seven kills, Atwell, Tunink and Parnell three each and Ortega two.
Cerna tallied 22 total digs and Huntington eight, with Parnell adding seven. Atwell, Orellana and Madison Stika had five digs apiece, West four, Tunink three and Ortega, Stevea, Sandez and Karagyn Whelchel one each.
Steva finished with 2.5 blocks at the net, with West having one block and Cerna one assisted block.
Perry will compete Saturday at the AC/GC Tourney before visiting Roland-Story Tuesday. They will host West Marshall Sept. 22 and play in the South Tama County tourney Sept. 24.
