Boone senior Tanner Schminke is likely to remember his final visit to Dewey Field fondly. Schminke threw for 132 yards and a touchdown, ran for 64 yards and a score, and returned an interception 61 yards for six points as the Toreadors (3-1, 2-0) pounded Perry (2-2, 0-2) for a 41-0 victory.

The Bluejays were unable to control either side of the line of scrimmage, surrendering 277 yards on 44 rushes by the Toreadors while forcing the guests to punt just once in the contest. Perry yielded 409 total yards on 54 Boone snaps while totaling just 92 yards of offense (39 rushing, 53 passing) on 40 plays while in possession of the football.

Schminke put Boone on the board with the only score of the first quarter when he hit Tanner Frost for a 14-yard scoring strike right at the goal line. Jackson Smith hit the PAT to give the guests a 7-0 lead after 12 minutes of play.

Perry struggled to move the ball throughout the game but committed just one turnover, although it proved costly. The Jays had the ball early in the second period when quarterback Adan Medina was intercepted by Schminke, who raced down the Toreador sideline and slipped a tackle at the 10-yard line to score on a 61-yard pick-six.

Schminke scored later in the period on a 15-yard end-around scamper, then connected with Jon Herrick over the middle for a 27-yard score as the Boone wideout simply leapt over Perry defender Manasses Martinez — who was in otherwise perfect position — to win the jump ball in the front of the end zone. Smith added the third of his five successful PAT kicks for a 27-0 Toreador lead at the intermission.

Kade Morain caught a short crossing pass and ran through the rear of the Perry defense for a 19-yard score in the third quarter, with a 16-yard burst through open space from Kaden Sherrard capping the scoring.

Medina was under pressure most of the contest and finished 7-of-14 for 53 yards with the one interception. He lead Perry on the ground with 20 yards on 15 carries (yardage lost to sacks is deducted, in high school, from rushing yards).

Reece Dunlap caught four passes for 26 yards, Janier Puente two for 18 yards and Brandon Juarez one pass for nine yards.

Mark Campos (5-10), Donald Chavez (3-9) and Dunlap (3-0) also had carries, with Perry running 26 times for only 39 total yards.

Juarez led the defense with 9.5 tackles and had an interception which he returned 12 yards. Chavez was in on 5.5 stops, with Dunlap, Campos and Nic Fellom tallying four stops apiece.

Schminke was 7-10-1 form three TDs and 132 yards passing, with Herrick (4-67, 1 TD), Hulse (1-32), Morain (1-19, 1 TD) and Frost (1-14, 1 TD) catching balls.

Sherrard broke tackles on many of his 21 carries and finished with 123 yards and a score on the ground. Schminke (6-6-4, 1 TD), Eli Johnson (8-48), John Anders (8-29) and Hulse (1-13) also had ran the ball.

Morain’s seven tackles and 6.5 stops from Schminke powered the Boone defense, who recorded their first shutout since a 56-0 blanking of Saydel in 2012.

Perry will make a short trip Friday to play DC-G (3-1, 2-0), who scored late and then came away with an interception in the final minute to surprise Ballard, 16-14, in week four action.
