July 24, 2018

  • Brandon Lee Ferguson, 20, 406 Rushview Drive, Jefferson, was arrested on charges of driving under suspension and supervised-release violation.
  • A caller said she received a call from a man “who called her grandma. When she asked him his name, he hung up on her.” The caller said she “just thought people should be aware that people are calling and trying to scam people in town.”
  • A man entered the offices of the Perry Police Department at 908 Willis Ave. and said “his ex-wife” was “harassing his daughter now as well.” An officer responded and spoke with the man and his daughter.
  • A caller from the Dallas County Hospital said a patient “was at the hospital on a committal order,” but “he left,” taking an “unknown direction of travel.” Officers responded and located the patient, who was “taken back to Dallas County Hospital.”
  • A caller said he was driving to work “when a male sat up in the third seat” of his vehicle. The caller said “he was startled, but his wife recognized the male as someone who had been (at) the neighbors.” The caller said the man is from Rippey, and the caller said he dropped the man off in Granger. The caller said “he wasn’t going to do anything about it, but then people were sending him screen shots of posts this male is putting out,” claiming that the caller “basically held this male hostage and dumped him out in Granger.” The caller said he “just wanted to have something on record in the event of issues.” An officer responded.
  • A patrolling officer of the Perry Police Department encountered a group of RAGBRAI riders with open containers outside a local retail store. Other officers also responded and “asked them to throw the alcohol away.” The riders complied and said “they are en route to Madrid for a party.”
  • A caller said a vehicle with a flat tire was blocking her mailbox. An officer responded and determined the disabled vehicle was not blocking the mailbox.
  • A patrolling officer of the Perry Police Department encountered a group of RAGBRAI riders with open containers in a park in Perry. The officer “talked to them about open containers.”
  • A caller said his cat was lost.
  • A caller said two dogs were running at large. Officers responded and transported the animals to the Perry Animal Holding Facility.
  • A man entered the offices of the Perry Police Department at 908 Willis Ave. and said he was concerned about whom “his ex-girlfriend” was “hanging out with” and was “concerned about his son being around a sex offender.” An officer responded and told the man “he would need to report that issue to the Iowa Department of Human Services.”
  • A caller said she caught three kittens. An officer responded and contacted animal control.
  • A caller said someone “asked to get his charger out of her car,” and “she gave him the keys since she was at work so he could do so.” The caller said she later found “her car was gone,” but “she got it back today with the battery gone and other things stolen from it.” The caller said “no permission was ever given for him to drive her car.” An officer responded.
  • A caller said “someone was on a gray scooter that was just parked in the middle of the road, smoking a cigarette.” An officer responded.
  • A caller from the Jefferson Police Department requested an officer of the Perry Police Department make contact with someone in Perry and ask the person to call the Jefferson Police Department. An officer responded, made contact with the person in Perry and delivered the message.
  • A caller said “a group of kids” has “been going around” and “hitting rocks with a baseball bat.” The caller said he “is worried it is going to get worse.” An officer responded.

July 25, 2018

  • A caller said her niece “ran away from home.” Officers responded.
  • A caller said she saw two males “walking into people’s backyards.” Officers responded.
  • A caller said he found an abandoned bicycle. An officer responded and “took possession of the bike.”
  • A caller reported two suspicious males. An officer responded but did not find the suspects.
  • A caller said “one of her daycare children reported some issues at home.” An officer responded, and Child Protective Services was notified.
  • A caller reported “having a nervous breakdown” and contemplating self-harm. Officers responded and escorted the caller to the Dallas County Hospital for treatment.
  • Tiara Dawn Stanek, 24, 501 Madison St., Scranton, was arrested on Dallas County warrants for failure to appear on an original charge of harassment and failure to appear on a charge of probation violation.
  • A caller requested that an officer of the Perry Police Department respond “for information on the missing runaway.” An officer responded. The missing person was later found in Clive.
  • A man entered the offices of the Perry Police Department at 908 Willis Ave. and reported a scam phone call.
  • A man entered the offices of the Perry Police Department at 908 Willis Ave. and said he received threatening messages via WhatsApp. An officer responded and said “there was not much the police department would be able to do in regards to finding the people talking to him on the app.” The officer advised the man “to delete the app and stop speaking with the other people on it.”
  • A caller reported a break in a water main. An officer responded, and the Perry Water Department was notified.
  • A caller said “his mom’s kitten is stuck in a tree.” The Perry Volunteer Fire Department was alerted and responded, explaining to the caller that “most of them come down on their own when they start to get hungry” but “if the cat had not come down by tomorrow afternoon, he would get a few guys together and help the cat.”
  • A caller said “someone was seen looking through their car but took off running.” Officers responded and “patrolled the area.”

July 26, 2018

  • A patrolling officer of the Perry Police Department removed debris from the roadway.

*A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
