Julio Adrian Ruiz, 19, of Perry was arrested Saturday on a charge of second-offense domestic abuse assault.

A Perry man was arrested Saturday night on a Dallas County warrant for assault in connection with an incident two weeks ago in which he allegedly opened a gash in his step-father’s head when he struck him with a piece of wood.

Julio Adrian Ruiz, 19, of 1421 Fifth St., Perry, was charged with second-offense domestic abuse assault.

The incident occurred May 30 in the 1400 block of Fifth Street, where Ruiz allegedly “struck his step-father in the head with a wooden object, causing serious personal injury. The wooden object was approximately 3-4 inches wide by 24 inches long. The victim had a noticeable gash on the right side of his head and was bleeding,” according to court records.

Ruiz “fled the scene prior to police arrival,” according to court records. He was arrested at taser point Saturday night in the 1500 block of First Avenue after attempting to elude an officer of the Perry Police Department on a bicycle, according to public safety radio traffic.

Ruiz is held in the Dallas County Jail on a $2,000 cash or surety bond. He is scheduled for a hearing June 16 in Dallas County District Court.

Ruiz was convicted of assault causing bodily injury or mental illness and first-offense domestic abuse assault-bodily injury or mental illness in 2021 in Dallas County District Court. He was convicted of assault in 2020 in Dallas County District Court.
