Perry volleyball falls to host PCM

Kickoff will be at 6 p.m. for tonight's varsity game between Perry and visiting Greene County at Dewey Field.

MONROE — Host PCM broke open a 1-1 tie to claim a 3-1 HOIC volleyball win over Perry Tuesday.

PCM (9-13, 2-3) won game one, 25-23, but Perry (7-17, 0-4) bounced back to capture a 25-16 win in the second game. The host Mustangs scored a 25-7 game three victory, then closed out the match with a 25-19 win in the fourth game.

Peyton Tunink led the Perry attack with eight kills, with Kathryn West adding seven. Ashley Cerna had six kills, Kimberly Castillo five and Callie Steva two, with Taylor Atwell distributing 23 assists, Cerna two and Addison Huntington one.

Cerna and Tunink both had 15 digs and Huntington 14, with Atwell providing 10 digs. West finished with seven digs, Steva two, and Castillo one while Valerie Contreras notched five digs.

The Jayettes were 61-of-70 (87) serving with seven aces, with Cerna (14-15-4) leading the way. Steva was 12-13-2 and Atwell 11-12-1 behind the line, with West 12-of-13, Tunink 7-of-9, and Huntington 5-of-8.

Perry hosts Greene County Tuesday before beginning play in the Jayette Invite Oct. 7 against Saydel, Des Moines Hoover, and Des Moines North. They will then participate in the Indianola Classic Oct. 9, with matches against Ballard, Fort Dodge, Clarinda, and Indianola on the bill.
