BOONE — Perry senior Devon Archer played a key role in helping Boone top Carroll, 87-83, in a boys swimming dual Tuesday. Archer competes for the Toreadors as part of a sharing agreement between the two schools.

Boone (19-9 overall) improved to 4-4 in dual meets with in as dramatic a fashion as possible in a two-team competition.

Trailing by six points entering the final event — the 400 freestyle relay — the Toreadors could win only by placing both first and second in the race. A 1-3 finish would have left the two teams tied, while any other result would have given the visiting Tigers the win.

“Senior night brings a lot of emotion,” Boone head coach Chris Mann said. “Tonight’s emotion was hyped. Carroll swam a fantastic meet. Our seniors have been phenomenal leaders and they are going to be tough ones to lose next year. We wish them the best and can’t wait to see what the future holds for them.”

Archer swam one leg of the victorious 400 freestyle relay while also swimming on the 200 free relay squad. He competed in the 200 Individual Medley and 100 yard freestyle as well.
