Porch fire brings rapid emergency response Tuesday night

A fire broke out under the porch of a house in the 1700 block of Otley Avenue shortly after 8 p.m. Tuesday.

No injuries were reported, and the blaze was promptly controlled and extinguished by the Perry Volunteer Fire Department.

A caller reported the fire about 8:07 p.m. and said an injured person was inside the three-bedroom house at 1709 Otley Ave.

A man with an injured foot was seen hopping around the porch of the house while a neighbor attempted to extinguish the fire with tap water.

The cause of the fire, which appeared to be confined to the west side of the porch, is under investigation at this hour.

The 110-year-old house is owned by Gustavo and Veronica Garcia, according to county records.

The Perry Police Department, Perry First Responders, Dallas County Sheriff’s office and Dallas County EMS also responded.
