Too many cooks could spoil the half-dozen broths served Wednesday evening at the First Christian Church in Perry in the 12th annual Before-the-Turkey Soup Supper, a fundraiser by the EDGE youth group on behalf of the Shop with a Cop program in Perry.

The EDGE Youth Group of the Perry First Christian Church hosted its 12th annual Before-the-Turkey Soup Supper Wednesday evening, with donations directed to the Perry Police Department’s Shop with a Cop program.

Several hundred people were served a great variety of soups, along with corn bread, desserts and beverages — all for a free will donation.

Later in the evening, the Perry Ministerial Association drew a crowd of about 50 to its annual Ecumenical Thanksgiving Service at the First Christian Church, sponsored by the Perry Ministerial Association.

Officiants in the service were the Rev. Paul Burrow of the First United Methodist Church, the Rev. Andrea Brownlee of the First Christian Church, the Rev. Jeremy Winter of Mt. Olivet Lutheran Church, the Rev. Chris Reising of St. Patrick Catholic Church, the Rev. Lynne Hanna of the First Presbyterian Church and one newcomer — the Rev. Don Keeler, newly installed pastor of St. Martin’s Episcopal Church.

Retired pastors Lou Hoger and Norm Adams also participated in the service, with Bertha Mae Van Horne the pianist.

Ecumenical Lenten services will be offered every Tuesday during Lent. The services begin Feb. 20, 2018 at an hour to be determined.
