The Dallas County Board of Supervisors will convene a public hearing Tuesday, March 7 at 7 p.m. to receive comments on two financial matters.

The supervisors will hear the voice of the people before deciding whether to accept the Dallas County Compensation Board’s recommended salaries for elected officials and to adopt the proposed FY 2018 budget.

There was no public comment at last year’s budget hearing because no members of the public attended the hearing.

The public hearing will convene in the supervisors chambers at 902 Court St. in Adel.

The Dallas County Treasurer collects property taxes not only on behalf of the county but on behalf of six or eight other taxing entities besides. Of every $1 collected, about 13 cents goes to fund county services, such as the sheriff’s office and the roads department.

Schools districts in Dallas County receive 47 cents of every $1 collect by the county treasurer. Cities receive about 35 cents, and the community college district takes about 2 cents. The county hospital receives about 1.5 cents of every $1, with the assessor’s office, township trustees, agriculture extension and other small taxing entities each getting less than 1 cent each.
