School started Monday morning in Perry with the renewal of friendships and, for many students, a walk to school in the cool morning temperatures.
School officials were on hand to remind students about rules, and officers of the Perry Police Department kept watch over activities at the Perry Elementary, Middle and High Schools, with the new access routes and parking lots at the elementary school given special attention.
Trevor Miller, Perry Elementary School principal, was on hand to help students and parents find their way through the new arrangements and ensure safe arrivals.
Across town, members of Perry’s American Legion Post 85 raised the flag at St. Patrick’s School, and Principal Doug Latham read an account of the origin of the national anthem, “The Star-Spangled Banner,” by Francis Scott Key.
First-day pictures in front of the school sign is a tradition carried on at St. Patrick’s School, and many parents and students took their turn.
