A semi-tractor trailer tipped over into Beaver Creek north of Perry Tuesday afternoon, entrapping the driver and possibly leaking hazardous wastes.

The bucolic banks of Beaver Creek were shaken Tuesday afternoon when a semi-tractor trailer tipped over into the waterway, entrapping the driver and possibly leaking hazardous wastes.

The incident was reported about 4:45 p.m. in the 12700 block of Knox Trail north of Perry. The truck was reportedly hauling rock and overturned about one-half mile from the roadway.

The Perry Police Department, Dallas County Sheriff’s office, Perry First Responders, Perry Volunteer Fire Department and Dallas County EMS responded.

The fire department is cutting open the cab of the overturned semi at this hour in order to extricate the driver, whose injuries are not life threatening, according to public safety radio traffic.

The vehicle was suspected of leaking fuel and motor oil into the waterway. The Iowa Department of Natural Resources has been notified.
